A Big Announcement (Finally!)

Family Ties

It’s a secret I’ve been keeping for months. Well, mostly–a couple of my Twitter followers figured it out. But now that E’s adoption has been finalized, the kids have been told, our parents let in on it, and my congregation notified, I can reveal it to the world: I’m pregnant!

This is the photo we used to share the news on Facebook. See my little snow baby? (Also, isn’t my family adorable?)

I’m due on May 25, which makes me 15 weeks along today. I’m excited and terrified. It’s going to be a little nuts having two pre-teens, a teenager, and an infant to keep up with, but I think we’ll do just fine. Dude’s kids were over the moon when we told them–especially Girl-E, who let out some expected squees of joy–but E took a little longer to process the news. He was very quiet, as I figured he would be, but took a walk and came out of it pretty well. Later, he sent me text messages from a friend’s house letting me know he was afraid he’d be forgotten about once the baby arrived. I reassured him, and he has been fine since, even joking about his “turkey baby” moving around in his belly after Thanksgiving dinner!

I am at the stage where most days I don’t fully believe I’m pregnant; even typing those words seems strange. I’ve kept it quiet for so long, my mild morning sickness has passed, and I’m not showing yet, so it’s a little surreal. I have a Doppler, so I’ve heard the heartbeat many times, but I’m sure it will begin to feel real in other ways soon!
